This cabinet card comes from the New York Gerster / Fox estate.This photo is of ALICE FOX GERSTER (1885-1971) This photo is not identified on the back, but matches known photos of the girl. This beautiful image features a young Alice seated on a ledge. Her feet are crossed. She is wearing a white gown with eyelet lace and tassels on her shoulders. She is holding a bouquet of flowers in her lap and is facing off to the side. This appears to be from the same photo session and photos of her with her brother and cousin (see my other listings) The photographer of this image: Rockwood, 17 Union Square NY *Rockwood studio was run by George G. Rockwood, who popularized the carte de viste (CDV) in America), and his brother Elihu R. Rockwood, a famous war photographer. They photographed the elite society of New York City in this era, including movie stars, politicians, and other rich and famous individuals. *Alice Fox (1885-1971) were the children of the affluent New York lawyer Austen George Fox (1849-1937) and Alice Hoppin Fox (1857-1933) *Alice would marry John Carl Arpad Gerster (1881-1874), one of the founders of The American Cancer Society, originally American Society for the Control of Cancer, which was first headquartered at his childhood home, 34 E 75th St NYC.
